The month is September so for all of us Apple fans that usually means the arrival of the new iPhone and already getting referred to as ‘Worth the wait’ we were excited to take a look at the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max has the upgrades we were waiting for and one we didn’t even know we needed, the always-on display is well overdue, but the biggest upgrade is ‘Dynamic Island’ and Once again Apple has made the fastest smart phone around featuring its A16 Bionic Chip.
What is this new Dynamic Island? Dynamic Island is the pill-shaped area at the top of the display to showcase relevant information to the user such as background activities like now playing music or turn by turn directions. This is an innovative and exciting new feature for Apple and it’s pretty fun to play with, gone are the intrusive reminders of a full screen ‘Face ID’ check and later this year Apple plan to make a Live activities API available to developers to deliver more in depth Dynamic Island experiences like your favourite teams sport scores, how far away your Uber is and if your DoorDash has been collected from the restaurant – All without having to constantly dive back into an app to check.
When you first pick up the new iPhone 14 Pro Max you will notice a couple of things like the new pill-shaped cut-out (for Dynamic Island above) and the second is that the camera bump is noticeably bigger. All three cameras on the back of the iPhone 14 Pro Max are larger than its predecessor so it does feel like this area now takes up a sizeable part on the back of the phone. The iPhone 14 Pro Max is also slightly heavier and thicker than the iPhone 13 but isn’t noticeable enough to worry about, coming in four colour options, deep purple, silver, gold and space black and again with the colour-matched polished steel sides for its pro phones it brings a familiar elegant finish.
The iPhone 14 Pro Max owes thanks to its efficient chip to give it an average battery of 14 hours although the iPhone 14 Pro Max has stuck with 20W charging meaning there are faster charging smart phones available. We got only an average of 41% on 30 minutes charging when Apple claims you can hit 50% so there’s plenty of retesting for us to do but early reviews from consumers are complaining that the 14 battery is worse off than its predecessor.
There’s a lot to love about the new iPhone 14 Pro Max, it looks as beautiful as ever, runs the powerful A16 Bionic Chip and features the new Dynamic Island, Overall, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is a beast of a phone.
Replacing iPhone screens can be expensive, so we recommend adding that extra layer of protection by adding a nano glass screen protector to the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
